Kenji Meals ("Kenji", "we", "us") is operated by DigitalBox Studios in Greece. We are the controller of personal information we process to operate our app, website and related services. Contact us at kenjimeals@protonmail.com.
App update and earlier versions
We are preparing version 1.4, focused on recipes, cooking, weekly meal planning and shopping lists. It removes recipe importing and its share extension, import-credit referral features, AI generation and analysis, calorie and macro displays and tracking, diet and weight goals, weight logging, automatic nutrition and portion recommendations, AppsFlyer advertising attribution and Mixpanel app-usage analytics.
The updated-app sections below describe that release once you install it. Until then, earlier installed versions may continue to use their existing services. Updating the policy does not update your app, disable older services, or delete information previously processed. The website's advertising and newsletter services are separate and are described below.
Information in the updated app
Local meal and profile information. Your cooking preferences, ingredient exclusions, plans, shopping lists and saved recipes are stored on your device. Previously saved body details, diet goals and food or weight records may remain in local storage for compatibility, but version 1.4 does not offer those tracking features or use those values to select recipes or set portions. These features do not send that content to an AI provider or app-usage analytics service. Optional photos attached to recipe shares or previously saved recipes are not analyzed by AI in this release. Sharing a recipe or photo through the device's share sheet sends the content you choose to the destination you select.
Device storage and Apple services. The updated app does not enable Kenji's iCloud/CloudKit sync, including for profiles that previously enabled it. This does not remove earlier cloud records. Device backups and Apple services are separate from app-managed sync and may preserve copies according to your Apple settings. We cannot promise that deleting a local record removes every historical backup or cloud copy.
Purchases and subscriptions. Apple handles App Store purchases and payment details. RevenueCat helps validate purchases, restore access, maintain subscription entitlements and provide subscription reporting. Processing can include a RevenueCat app-user identifier, transaction and product identifiers, purchase history, subscription status and technical information needed to operate the purchase service. Kenji does not receive your full payment-card details from these purchases. Removing Mixpanel does not remove RevenueCat's subscription reporting.
Earlier referral features. Version 1.4 removes import-credit referrals and their installation-identifier collection. Earlier versions may still send an installation identifier, referral code and credit information to our server. Historical referral records may remain subject to the retention and rights information below.
Recipe content. The app can request recipe catalogs and images from Kenji hosting or the address serving an image. Version 1.4 does not import recipes from websites, social posts or photos and does not include a receiving share extension. Previously saved recipes may remain on the device. Destination services receive ordinary request information, such as your IP address, requested resource and request time, and apply their own privacy practices.
Support. If you email us, we receive your email address, message, attachments and any details you choose to include. Please avoid sending unnecessary health information, financial details or other sensitive material.
Earlier app versions and historical information
Earlier versions included AI generation, meal analysis, recipe extraction and portion tuning. Depending on the version and feature, submitted content could include meal descriptions, recipe text, images, dietary restrictions and nutrition-profile details. Processing could involve Kenji hosting and AI providers such as DeepSeek and OpenAI. Some image processing occurred on the device; other image-import features could send image content to a server. Do not assume that every earlier image feature kept the image entirely on your device.
Earlier versions also integrated Mixpanel for app-usage analytics and AppsFlyer for advertising attribution. Depending on the version and settings, those integrations could process identifiers, device/app information, usage or purchase events, and nutrition or weight values included in events. Earlier versions also contained optional private CloudKit storage.
The updated release stops those app integrations; it does not itself erase records already held by us, Apple or earlier providers. Earlier installed versions may continue processing information while their services remain available. Contact us about historical data or deletion, and install the updated release when it becomes available if you want the revised app behavior.
Why we process information
We process information necessary to deliver requested services, administer subscriptions and referrals, and respond to support requests on the basis of our contract with you or steps you request before entering a contract. We rely on legitimate interests, where applicable, to protect services, prevent referral abuse, handle service-related correspondence and understand subscription performance. We process records where necessary to meet legal obligations.
Optional newsletter subscriptions and optional advertising technologies rely on your consent where required. You may withdraw consent without affecting the lawfulness of earlier consent-based processing. The updated app keeps your health-related entries on your device. Any separate consent required for other processing must be obtained before that processing takes place; reading this policy is not consent to send health information to a provider.
Recipients and international processing
Recipients relevant to the updated app and website include Apple, RevenueCat, our hosting and service-security providers, services you deliberately open or import from, and the newsletter and advertising providers described below. DeepSeek, OpenAI, Mixpanel and AppsFlyer may remain relevant to older app versions or historical records. Providers may act as processors or independent controllers depending on their role. We may also disclose information when legally required or necessary to establish or defend legal claims.
Some recipients operate outside Greece and the European Economic Area. International-transfer requirements depend on the recipient and processing arrangement; applicable mechanisms can include an adequacy decision or contractual safeguards. Contact us for the recipients and safeguards applicable to your information, including information about obtaining a copy of relevant safeguards. We do not claim that all processing remains in the EU or that every provider uses an identical arrangement.
Retention and deletion
Local app information remains on your device until you remove it, reset the app's data or otherwise remove its storage. You can use Settings → Delete account & data to clear the profile, saved recipes, plans and logs handled by that control. Device backups, shared-extension storage and historical cloud or provider records may require separate handling; this control is not a guarantee of deletion from every location.
Deleting app data does not cancel an App Store subscription, erase Apple's transaction history, unsubscribe you from the newsletter, or automatically erase server-side referral or historical provider records. Manage subscriptions through Apple or the app's subscription-management options. Email us for requests involving information we or our processors hold outside the app.
We retain server-side information only for the period needed for its purpose, including providing referral credits or subscriptions, resolving support requests and disputes, preventing abuse, and meeting applicable legal recordkeeping duties. Retention depends on the information and these requirements; an app update does not automatically restart or end a retention period. Newsletter-specific periods are described below. Where information must be retained for a legal reason, deletion may be limited to that extent.
Your choices and rights
You can edit local cooking preferences, manage photo access and notifications in device settings, and decide what to share. Meal reminders are optional and can be disabled. Declining an optional feature does not prevent unrelated local cooking and planning, subject to subscription access where applicable.
Where applicable, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability or objection to processing. You can withdraw consent for consent-based processing. Email kenjimeals@protonmail.com; we may request information proportionate to verifying your request. You may complain to the Hellenic Data Protection Authority or another competent supervisory authority. These rights have conditions and exceptions under applicable law.
Children and security
Kenji is not intended for children under 15. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, contact us so we can investigate and address it.
We use technical and organizational measures intended to protect information. No service, device, transmission or backup can be guaranteed completely secure. Check ingredient labels and preparation conditions for allergens; ingredient filters cannot certify allergy safety.
Website advertising and cookie choices
The Kenji Meals website uses Google AdSense. Google and its partners can process cookies or other identifiers, IP addresses, page visits and advertising interactions for ad delivery, measurement, fraud prevention and personalization where permitted by your choices. Removing advertising attribution from the app does not remove advertising from the website.
Visitors in the EEA, UK and Switzerland can make advertising choices through the site's consent message and revisit them using Privacy & cookie settings in the footer. Optional consent can be refused without preventing access to recipe content. Some limited or non-personalized advertising may still operate subject to applicable requirements. The Saturday Table newsletter
Newsletter signup is optional. We use the email address and confirmation you provide to deliver requested issues through Resend. A confirmation email must be completed before subscription. Pending addresses and confirmation records are held privately on our server for up to 30 days; after confirmation, a hashed confirmation record replaces the pending address. Signup-abuse controls use hashed IP information, with signup-attempt records kept for up to 24 hours.
Resend manages the confirmed subscriber list, email delivery, unsubscribes, bounces and delivery reports. Each issue has an unsubscribe link. Newsletter campaign labels identify the issue associated with a visit without including your email address. We do not sell the newsletter list. Contact us for access or deletion requests relating to newsletter information.
Changes and contact
